Mountain Top Removal Series

Is there any such thing as "clean coal?"  Few in our area are aware of the devastating consequences of current coal mining practices on the environment and quality of life in Appalachia.  Mountaintop removal is a radical form of coal mining in which entire tops of mountains are literally blown up.....  and it is happening here in America on a scale that is unimaginable.  Come to our film and lecture series to learn how Massachusetts residents can reduce the tremendous environmental and health care burden of mountaintop removal on these fellow Americans.

You will not want to miss these upcoming events:

Sunday, February 8, 2009
The film "Kilowatt Ours, A Plan to Reenergize America" by Jeff Barrie will be shown at 11:00 am and 6:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury in Shrewsbury (directions), Massachusetts (in the Chapel).  You will learn how communities and individuals across American have taken simple conservation measures to dramatically reduce their electric consumption.  Only a 5% decrease in consumption nationwide is predicted to stop the drastic mining practice of mountain top removal.
The 6:00 pm showing will be preceded by a pot-luck supper at 5:00 pm.

Sunday, March 1, 2009
Colleen Cronin will present the "Mountaintop Removal Traveling Roadshow" at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury.  Colleen will explain the practice of mountain top removal and how it is devastating the landscape and ecosystems of Appalachia and other parts of our country.  This event will also be preceded by a pot-luck dinner at 5:00 pm.
